After swapping out my genuine J-Head for an E3D-V6 clone, I had to redo the extruder section because the authentic J-Head is smaller and employs a vastly different approach. The method I used involved inserting some PTFE tubing directly into the hotend all the way up to the extruder where it butts against the 2mm filament hole. This worked perfectly but if you ever need to remove the hotend, which will rarely happen in reality, you'll have to take out the heater block first then grasp the PTFE tube and pull it out. Once that's done, simply unscrew the clip and slide the hotend out. No big deal! If I decide to switch to exotic rubber filament later on, I can drill out the 4mm hole all the way up and install a cutout just before and after the bearings so the travel path is shorter. With the introduction of Simplify3D, I found its supports superior to those built into/baked into the original I3 rework files.
