I ran into some serious geometry issues with this model in slic3r that took a ton of time to resolve. After 2 hours of digging through the mess in blender, I finally got everything tidied up - not perfect, but close enough for me. Now, slic3r is slicing like a charm and I'm sharing my solution here just in case someone else out there needs it.
