Prusa i3 Printed Frame
thingiverse
A fully printed frame for the Prusa i3 is being created, drawing inspiration from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:146061. Key modifications include: * Frame sections are now fully enclosed * A different style of section interlocking for alignment is used, relying on M8 bolts running through the frame for added strength * Only drill holes for Z axis mounts are included, as other drill holes primarily serve zip ties and make limited sense with such a thick frame (an alternative is to use sticky back cable clips) * Different electronic mounting holes have been implemented, moving them up to ensure all components fit within the middle section, eliminating the need to print two parts if modifications are desired This design is currently undergoing testing as it is being printed. To-do items: * Developing RAMPS and rpi electronics mount with integrated cooling * Designing a frame brace, if necessary * Creating GitHub sources * Including or linking to every part required for building the complete printer, along with a full BOM **UPDATE 30/06/2015** After printing most of the frame, some parts have been found to be quite weak along the layers. This may be attributed to the printer as initial printed parts were excellent. Further investigation is needed and design updates might be required.
