Prusa i3 Printable Spool Holder
thingiverse
This simple parametric spool holder attaches to a Prusa i3 frame and accommodates a single 1kg filament spool. It also features a customizable spindle adapter for larger spindle sizes. Watch it in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaxoY62o9zk. Updates include a more solid top part, demo STLs for individual components, flexible spool mounting clips eliminating the need for rods or bearings, and an extender for additional height. To assemble, first print two solid mounting beams in PLA or ABS using 10-15% infill for lightness and strength. Attach them to your frame with M3 screws, ensuring they're straight up-and-down. Beams are printed on their sides to avoid support material. Choose between rod/bearing holders or flexible clips for spool mounting. Flexible clips fit 20mm and 30mm spools and can be printed in PLA, ABS, or nylon. Adjust the SCAD file as needed. The spindle adapter is also customizable. Experiment with geometries for strong, low-material usage options. However, narrow scaffold beams are currently too weak to recommend.
