PRUSA I3 POWER SUPPLY MUFFLER.
pinshape
I own two of these printers and they are situated in my bedroom. Most of my prints take longer than 3 or 4 hours to complete and happen at night when I'm sleeping. The fans on the printers can be quite loud since they're facing directly at me while they're situated on a desk at the foot of my bed. After researching this issue online, I found that someone else had experienced similar problems with another type of power supply unit. They used sound-absorbing technology to reduce noise levels and I decided to try it out for myself using foam material. You can see in the photos how I applied this material to help absorb some of the sound before it escapes. Other materials like fiberglass also work well for this purpose. After testing and measuring the sound levels with a sound meter, I found that this method is effective at reducing noise by about 85%. This solution does not restrict air flow, which would be counterproductive.
