Prusa i3 Mk3 Noctua Extruder Cover Remix
thingiverse
A modified mk3-extruder-cover is being created that deviates from the standard design by removing the venturi-hole and replacing it with a hole of similar size to the side of the heatsink. This adjustment aims to reduce the static pressure required for the fan to push air through, resulting in less airflow being pushed through the heatsink even when using a strong fan. Prusa engineers included the venturi hole in the noctua fan provided with the prusa mk3/mk3s to compensate for its low static pressure and give it some breathing room, allowing it to push air out through the hole. However, the intended effect of pulling air in as it passes through the hole does not occur. By replacing the venturi-hole with a hole on the side of the heatsink, airflow passing over the sink is maintained while reducing the static pressure needed, leading to good airflow around the sink without actual passage through it. The ultimate goal is for this modified design to draw warm air from the heatsink, thereby lowering its overall temperature.
