I aimed to have my fan blow onto the extruder motor, but didn't want a direct blast that might interfere with the print quality. To avoid this issue, I modified the original design by adding some lateral vents. While I've made these changes, I haven't put them to the test yet, so it's unclear how effective they'll be.
