Prusa i3 MK3: Bearing clips for Y-axis (bed)
thingiverse
This version of the LM8UU bearing clamps for the Y-axis is specifically designed to fit Prusa MK3. The main differences from the original source model are: * This design has been cut down to allow for easy installation over the V-cuts in the frame of the MK3. * Unlike on MK2, the Y-rods holders of MK3 do not obstruct the bearing holders, making it possible to use this same model for all three bearings. There are two versions available: * A grooved version for bearing installations that require a threaded insert. * A smooth (non-grooved) version suitable for DIY PLA printed bearings with a smooth metal tube shell. Additionally, there are two variants regarding nuts: * Without nuts * With M3nS nuts **Important Note:** After using the nutless design for 18 months without any issues, some users reported that their bearings became loose over time. This could be due to various factors such as bad or inappropriate filament, overtightened screws, or simply bad luck. To address this concern, I have also included a version with two M3nS nuts. Please note that the nutted version has not been tested, and user feedback is requested in the comments section. When assembling the bearings, use M3x16 screws with hex socket drive. Longer screws may hit the V-cuts on the frame, while shorter ones may not provide sufficient grip. ## Mounting Instructions To mount the bearings: 1. Align the bearings using a spare rod for perfect alignment. 2. Place the clips and tighten them just before the point where the tension starts affecting the movements of the rod. 3. If you notice that after tightening screws, the rod becomes more difficult to move, release the screws and ensure the bearings are aligned. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you achieve the best tension for smooth rod movement. **Important:** Do not overtighten the screws, as this can damage the threads on the plastic clips and require reprinting of new ones. Consider printing an extra spare clip at the beginning to avoid any issues. **Printing Recommendations:** Print in PETG or ABS using a 6-perimeter shell to prevent wear-out.
