Prusa I3 MK3 BACK Camera support

Prusa I3 MK3 BACK Camera support

thingiverse

This is a support to attach a Raspberry Pi Camera Module (V2) and optionally a Raspberry Pi Zero to the Original Prusa I3 MK3 printer. Every camera support for original Prusa I3 MK3 on Thingiverse puts the camera on the front of the printer, but from that viewpoint the nozzle is hidden by the cooling duct. This makes a front camera suitable for making timelapses, yet almost useless for remotely monitoring a print. This support places the camera on the back of the printer in a position that does not interfere with the print and allows a quite clear view of the nozzle. The support consists of two parts and can be printed without any supports. Two square M3 nuts and two M3x15mm screws are required to assemble the two parts. The nuts and screws should be in the Prusa spare parts bag. The camera module is simply pressed into its slot and stays in position. On the side part, there are four holes that can be used to attach a Raspberry Pi Zero W. If the part is printed in PLA, four spacers are mandatory because the RPi gets very hot while working and can deform the part. A 20-30cm long camera cable is needed to mount the camera and RPi as seen in the pictures. The support is attached to the MK3 by tucking the octagonal protrusion into the right X carriage support hole. If the image is out of focus, just use some pliers to rotate the screw lens until the image is focused, or print a specific tool like https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1570865. My RPi runs MotionEyeOS at https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos, configured as "Simple MJPEG Camera," and paired with Synology Surveillance Station for recording and remote access. It could also work with Octoprint using a flat cable to connect the RPi to the MK3 board connector. This is a sample video of my printer printing one of the two parts at 50x speed and with random music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niYZsJyzQ0Q.
