Prusa i3 MK2 Y motor mount mod (damper + robustness)
thingiverse
Tested with EMVIO NEMA 17 dampers Update 11/12/2016 Added a V2 (wider). No matter how hard you try, the part and motor will eventually bend if printed with PETG. Print the V2 with ABS at 80% cubic infill. Standard Y-motor mount of Prusa i3 MK2 suffers from two problems: Only two screw points prevent NEMA17 damper installation; The mount is flimsy; after some days, the motor bends slightly and causes belt slippage over pulley borders (see photo). This isn't a big problem, but note that X motor mounts don't bend, and they are 17mm wide against 10mm of Y motor mounts... Other projects fix the first problem: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1837853 https://www.tinkercad.com/things/iJrjFo03urM-y-motor-damper An additional Prusa part fixes the second problem: https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/blob/MK2/Printed-Parts/stl/Y-distance.stl However, these solutions don't work well together; Y-distance would add a motor to printer coupling surface, reducing damper effectiveness. This thing tries to fix both problems at once: 1) A bracket for the third screw is added; 2) The overall part width increases from 10mm to 12mm, making it stiffer and eliminating the need for Y-distance (to be tested); 3) The original SCAD file is used. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 MK2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.20 Infill: 80% cubic Notes: Print with ABS (no PETG - it will bend) Post-Printing The same M3x10 screws can be reused.
