I designed this mounting system for easy filament changes on the Prusa i3 MK2 printer. It allows the filament to unwind freely with minimal friction, reducing pressure on the x-motor and minimizing force required for filament roll handling. I use a 5mm all-thread rod paired with my universal filament spool, available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2303240. This design makes it easy to remove the spool, resulting in fewer print mistakes. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm happy to provide answers.
