Prusa i3 MK2/S/3 Filament Guide ClipOn
thingiverse
The Prusa i3 MK2/S/3 kit ships without a filament guide, causing issues when printing stiff filaments from small spools. Filament tends to unwind and gets stuck during printing. My custom filament guide is a two-part solution: a base with a ClipOn design that secures the guide to the Prusa frame and an interchangeable filament guide (loop). The ClipOn Holder base locks securely onto the aluminum frame, yet remains easy to reposition. The loop features a friction fit into the holder, closing the filament loading slot and preventing filament from escaping when printing. When selecting models, users can choose between a rectangular or angled ClipOn Holder. The angled version prevents collisions in top Z positions. Users also select a Loop size and whether it should have a filament slot. Those who frequently forget to load filament through the guiding loop will appreciate the guide with a filament slot. The thin part of the ClipOn base acts as a spring, securely holding the top part in place. I tested this design with PLA and PETG, both materials working well. I welcome ideas or changes to this design in the comments below. Update: The Filament Guide Dust Clearner for ClipOn base has been added. Don't forget to like if you enjoy this design! Printer Settings: * Printer Brand: RepRap * Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK2 * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.20mm * Infill: 30-50% Notes: Print with PLA, ABS, PET-G or similar materials. Use 2 perimeters, 3 top layers and 2 bottom layers at 50% infill. Post-Printing Instructions: The loop should fit into the base, but users may need to smooth the loop guide surface with a knife or sandpaper for an easy friction fit.
