UPDATE 5: I've updated the link to the latest stable version of Marlin, and I've got some essential updates for you. Always do a PID tune and ensure your thermosistors are set correctly. Mesh bed leveling is now enabled, and you can find it under Prepare > Level Bed - just follow the on-screen directions. UPDATE 4: I've updated the link to the firmware I'm running on my Ramps 1.4 to Marlin 1.1.0 RC8 Bugfix. As always, do a PID tune and adjust your E-Steps accordingly. Mesh bed leveling is now enabled, and it works incredibly well. UPDATE 3: I've uploaded my endstop mount for my particular endstop (not stock) and one for the stock di3 endstop, which I pulled from my previous bowden setup - my friend's upload can be found here. UPDATE 2: I've installed the new carriage and it works perfectly. Check out the pics for the new setup. UPDATE: I've uploaded a version of the X-carriage with double holes like the cable-chain uses. I'm also going to see if I can edit it so my end stop is adjustable, and make it so it's easily movable. I'm planning to print the modified carriage today and install it tomorrow, hopefully everything goes smoothly. On my search for better prints from my MakerSelect, I upgraded my printer a few months after buying it and converted to a Bowden style E3D v6 hot-end. I used it for quite some time and was happy with the quality of my prints. However, one thing I wasn't satisfied with was not being able to print with a high level of detail due to the limitations of the stock carriage. To solve this problem, I decided to upgrade to a custom X-carriage designed by Josef Prusa and Prusa Research. This design is not mine, all thanks should be directed to them for such an amazing creation. Here are some essential components you'll need to build your own custom X-carriage: * 3 x 24mm LM8UU bearings or 24mm Igus Drylin (you can find those here - this is a requirement for the X-carriage) * 8 x M3 Nuts (not locknuts) * 6 x M3-18 screw * 1 x M3-25 screw * 2 x M3-30 screw * 3 x M3-40 screw * 4 x M3 Washers * 2 x Extruder Springs (here's a link to the springs I used) * 1 x 625ZZ Bearing (here's a link to the ones I used) * 1 x MK8 Hobbed extruder gear (here's a link to the one I used - not sure if it's exact to the MK2 but, it works very well) * 1 x 50x15 12v Radial Fan (here's a link to the blower I have) * 1 x 30mm 12v fan (here's a link to the one I have - my original 30mm fan burned out so I picked this one up) * 1 x E3D v6 Hotend (here's a link to the one I bought which is a replica and works very well) To assemble your X-carriage, follow these steps: 1. Remove the old bearings from the carriage and slide on the new ones. 2. Make sure your bearings are all lubed up before reassembling unless you're using some drylin bearings. Design: The original design for this X-carriage is not mine - it's a creation of Josef Prusa and Prusa Research. All thanks should be directed to them for such an amazing design. Custom Firmware: Marlin Firmware for RAMPS 1.4: I was requested to post a link to my firmware that I'm running on my RAMPS 1.4. This is the latest stable version of Marlin 1.1.1. After flashing this, do a PID Autotune for your hotend and calibrate your E-Steps. Everything else should be set. If anything you may have to change direction of your steppers for the Y-Axis if you're using the stock carriage - this can be done in the configuration. Edit: Updated link to the latest stable 1.1.1. I also have mesh bed leveling on as well.
