Prusa i3 magnetic bowden X-carriage for E3D v6
thingiverse
This is my take on the Prusa i3 x-carriage for a Bowden extruder setup. My main goal is to make an easily removable hotend mount that allows users to work on the hotend without hassle, which I achieve using magnets! There are 2 design variations: The "stock" (1a) flavor gives you the best z-axis height and lets you use any cooling system you want. The "Diii compatible" (1b) will give you better cooling results with a DiiiCooler, but you'll have to compromise on your z-axis height by about 15mm. Attributes I based my design on Toolsons x-carriage, which is great. You should check out his designs if you're using a P3Steel. The DiiiCooler by Pawpawpaw85 is the best PLA cooler I've used (your results may vary). Yakulis' x-axis endstop holder is useful for the "stock" flavor, but any similar endstop holder will work. Thanks to Neo_Usagi for his E3D V6 model. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: P3Steel Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm - 0.3mm Infill: 20% - 50% Notes: Best printed using ABS. Items are arranged for optimal printing. It's highly recommended that the hotend mount (2) and DiiiCooler mount (6) are printed with supports. Instructions Parts List & Instructions. Parts List x2 M3 screws for the hotend clamp (3). Min. Length: 10mm, Max. Length: 24.5mm. x2 M3 screws for the inductive sensor mount (5). Max. Length: 11mm. x4 6mm (diameter) x 3mm (thickness) neodymium magnets. M3 tap highly recommended but not required. Parts List for DiiiCooler (optional) x2 M3 screws for the DiiiCooler mount (6). Refer to the DiiiCooler post X-endstop Since the "stock" (1a) x-carriage has a higher hotend mount than normal, I've found that Yakulis' x-endstop mount works well. If you choose the DiiiCooler compatible x-carriage, use any standard x-endstop mount. Assembly Print all parts. It's crucial to print the X-carriage (1) and hotend mount (2) as oriented for flatness and flush contact. Place a small dab of CA glue into the middle row of holes on both the X-carriage (1) and hotend mount (2). Press the magnets into them, filing down the magnets on the glue side to help them stick better. Note the magnet orientation! Secure the pins (4) into the top and bottom holes of the hotend mount (2) with a drop of CA glue. Clamp your hotend into the hotend mount (2) using the hotend clamp (3) and secure it with M3 screws. It's recommended to orient your hotend like this. (Optional for inductive bed levelling) Mount the inductive sensor into its mount (5) and secure it to the hotend mount (2) with a couple M3 screws. The sensor offset is [40,0] from the tip of the hotend. Your X-carriage should be ready to go. Assembly for DiiiCooler Follow steps 1-5. Secure the DiiiCooler mount (6) to the hotend mount (2) with some M3 screws. Attach the DiiiCooler to the mount (6) with M3 screws.
