v2 of my diy x-carriage design, original at https://www.printables.com/model/276122-prusa-i3-e3d-v6-x-axis-carriage

No support needed to print the carriage or part cooling fan guides, some support needed to print the clamp/fanmount and BLtouch mount.

Fan ducts are sourced and edited from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:895483

Improvements over previous version:

40mm extruder cooling fan for improved hotend cooling. A silicone sock is advised to avoid cooling the heatblock.

Extra z-height by mounting the hotend higher up on the x-carriage

Disadvantage:

Part cooling guides bolt into the extruder clamp from the back so the entire assembly must be completed before mounting the hotend.

UPDATE: I noticed too much heat creep into the heatbreak causing clogs when printing PETG, added a new carriage body that massively improves airflow across the v6 heatsink. Added benefit is less material so it prints faster and weighs less. BLtouch offset: (0,-40,-1.1)

UPDATE2: moved the probe to the side to further improve airflow after some cooling issues when changing to an all-metal heatbreak. Updated fan duct and probe attachment added. BLtouch offset: (30,30,-1.1)

Category: 3D Printer Parts
