Prusa i3 E3d Bowden Mount with servo v3
thingiverse
This is the latest version of my E3D mount for the Prusa i3 X-carriage, featuring an autolevel probe that has dramatically improved performance compared to my previous v2 (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:246726) model, now also compatible with E3D v6. The linkage gearing ensures that the arm takes a precise position every time it swings up and down, despite my cheap Chinese servo's tendency to swing at different angles. To achieve this, simply instruct it to go from maximum to minimum angle, using only the central travel of the arm to swing the probe at an exact 90-degree angle due to its gearing design. Secure start and end positions of the probe with tiny cylindrical D3 x1 mm neodymium magnets (six are needed), which fit snugly into the provided sockets after being superglued in place. The probe arm has a built-in channel for the endstop wire, but be sure to choose a light and flexible one (such as an earphone cable) to minimize force against arm movement after cleaning. Interestingly, I found that air coming from the fan doesn't impact print quality (or at least I think so). To account for this, I designed a small swinging port that opens when the probe extends, while a tiny rubber band closes it by means of a magnet when it retracts. This keeps airflow out during printing. To assemble the mount, you will need socket-head M3x35 screws to attach it to the Prusa X-carriage and a M2.5 with double nut for the pivot pin of the hinge. Optionally, use an additional couple of M3 screws to secure the back of the main body, though this is not strictly necessary. I provide a single STL file that you can split into separate parts using Repetier software; I have included suggested print orientation for each component as a starting point. The bowden version is generally recommended, but feel free to experiment with alternative setups – I personally use it with a compact direct MK7 extruder designed by me and compatible with the mount, though this has yet to be uploaded. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need any clarification or further information; I will happily respond or update this text accordingly.
