August 17, 2013, marked the beginning of a new compact and streamlined extruder project with enhanced mounting features. The SCAD code is positioned at the point where the gears pinch the filament, providing easier customization. This design can be compared to the Compact Extruder modified by http://www.thingiverse.com/misan for the 2engineers.com 50:1 Geared Stepper Motor (42BYG48HJ55). The updated extruder boasts additional features, such as more tunable parameters, an option to draw assembled parts, a minimized extruder option, hinged idler feature, adjustable idler axle offset, and an adapter for the i3 "mini" x-carriage in the inverted position. The project includes a universal GT2 x-carriage that accepts components with 24mm or 30mm spacing, along with a top mounting hole for stabilizing higher extruder installations. The official Github project page is https://github.com/thinkyhead/Prusa3, and you can view hot extruder action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWZupcYYGX8. The design follows the same approach as the i3 Wade Adapter (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:58451), utilizing a pair of long M3 bolts to reinforce the platform and provide a mounting point for the front hot-end clamp. Assembly instructions are available, along with guidance on customizing the SCAD code. Print all parts that come into contact with the hot end in ABS or a higher temperature material. Check it out at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:135368 for comparison.
