Prusa I3 Acrylic Frame Filament Holder

Prusa I3 Acrylic Frame Filament Holder

thingiverse

Examined various other filament holders available on Thingiverse, discovered most are mounted off center at the top or attached to the side frame. None appeared suitable for my needs, prompting me to create my own design. Wanted minimum drag on motor and weight of filament balanced directly above acrylic frame, preventing warping or shifting over time due to uneven distribution. Inside width of the holder was intentionally designed with a slightly larger opening. A small piece of foam was inserted to prevent vibration when spool is rotating and resting directly on plastic. This helps dampen any transfer of vibration from the spinning filament. Included two separate inserts for different types of filament holders: one for "justpla" filament (31mm inner diameter) and another for "Foldger Tech" filament (near 57mm inner diameter). Additional files provided include a stabilizing tab, known as filament holder tabs, which prevent tilting from side to side. Rod running through the holder is a simple wooden dowel, measuring 21mm in diameter. This was chosen purely for convenience, and you may find an alternative in your own storage that suits your needs. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa I3 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: .2mm Infill: 10% Notes: Inside width of filament holder is slightly wider than acrylic frame to intentionally account for excess play. To reduce vibration, insert a piece of foam and cut it to size to fit snugly. This will help minimize any potential issue with spool spinning directly on plastic.
