I reside in an extremely humid environment, so it's not possible for me to leave my filaments exposed. As a result, they're usually stored in sealed plastic containers with desiccant when not in use. However, when I'm printing, the filaments are mounted on top of my printer and subjected to the elements. I needed something to protect them while in use without adding excessive mass or introducing ringing. This design utilizes extremely lightweight materials, including 3mm thick Coreflute (similar to plastic cardboard), some wire, a few printed parts, and a plastic bag. The heaviest component is the desiccant, but everything else is just the standard spool holder that comes with my Prusa MK3 printer. Coreflute is assembled using tape (such as scotch or cellophane). To print this design, you'll only need to create the bolt, nut, left, and right STL files. Note that I've used a teflon tube insert in the bolt to ensure smooth filament movement. Additionally, there's a piece of foam at the top of the bolt to wipe away dust and debris from the filament. To attach the bolt, simply cut a small cross in the Coreflute and push it through. When assembling the design, make sure to keep the small slots as tight as possible, especially those that fit into the left and right mounts, as well as the hole for the spool holder. Don't forget to leave the little flap intact so you can fold it closed around the spool holder. The plastic bag is sealed at the base by slipping a Coreflute rectangle over the inner dimension of the base's outer dimensions.
