'Prusa' Filament Roller
thingiverse
Filament Roller, this design utilizes four 626Z bearings and two carbon fibre tubes to join the sections. The original design was created using rolled carbon fibre tubes that I had on hand as it presents a superior appearance, but you can use the STLs to print your own tubes. Mounts are printed with 100% infill without raft or support. Sides are printed with 20% infill without raft or support. I used superglue to secure everything together, resulting in an incredibly rigid structure. ### If You Want to Use Carbon Fibre ------------------------------------------ The larger tube has a 15mm inner diameter and a 16mm outer diameter, measuring 97.60 mm long (inner diameter and length are crucial) x2. The smaller tube has an 8mm inner diameter, a 10mm outer diameter, and measures 93.50 mm long (outer diameter and length are important) x2. Optional Filament Clamp * There is the option to print the smaller of the two filament clamps; you should only need one for the front. You should take one of the larger tubes and cut it down to 2x 45mm long tubes. Secure the clamp in the centre and use this at the front. I suggest angling the entry hole up at a 45-degree angle. Filament clamps are printed with 20% infill without supports. ## Printed Tubes If You Don't Have Carbon Fibre ------------------------------------------ You can choose to print the tubes rather than sourcing carbon fibre; therefore, I have included STLs for these. There are three sizes: the short large diameter tubes are for use with the larger front-mounted filament clamp, the longer ones for use without, and the long thin tubes are for the rollers. Tubes are printed with 100% infill without raft or support. ### Optional 6800 10x19x6 mm Bearings ------------------------------------------ You can also use 6800 10x19x6 mm miniature metal ball bearings. This would mean the smaller tubes would slide into the centre for the bearing, so they would need to be about 14mm longer to account for this (cut to fit). It is easier to use these with the carbon tubes. If you do choose these, then you would not need the mounts.
