Note: If you downloaded the first version without shifting the hourglass, it will not function properly when the extruder is raised to its top position during printing; do not use that file. 2-6-18 I purchase my filament spools at Microcenter, Inland Brand. They tend to be very full when new and I have found that the filament often gets pulled over the edge of the spool when the extruder moves far to the left or right. Sometimes the filament catches, causing the print to fail. There are several excellent guides available elsewhere; I created this one before searching for others. I did have a concept in mind, which seemed logical at the time. The design utilizes the mount method from Prusa's spool holders. Although I am unsure if they can be found on Thingiverse, I did not discover them during my quick search but will provide a link back if I do locate them. This initial design employs a double funnel with an hourglass-shaped opening to enable filament entry and exit with minimal stress. The hourglass is raised to clear the top of the extruder at maximum height and shifted forward to accommodate the spools I use. The third version is the minimalist guide, while the fourth is the MG Tall version (Minimalist Guide Tall [+1/2 inch). I prefer these two designs as they perform effectively and print in under an hour. I have adopted the spool holder from Joseph Prusa at https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/.
