Prusa Compact MMU2 Spool Holder
thingiverse
A compact spool holder for the Prusa MMU2 & MMU2S automatically collects unloaded filament in a secondary spool, preventing tangles. See video of operation: https://youtu.be/nxi6TSk1YOY This design is based on kommisar's fantastic MMU2 Spool Holder and can be printed on a single build plate. This version also features integrated spool holder numbers as a multi-color print. ### Additional parts needed: * 5 x 608 bearings * (optional) M3 x 10mm screw * (optional) 80mm PTFE Teflon tubing ### Printing requirements: For one spool holder, you'll need to print the following parts: * 1x MMU Spool Holder.stl (optionally combined with a number and number bg) * 1x FilamentWheel.stl * 4x SpoolWheel.stl * 5x BearingAxle.stl (65% infill) * 5x BearingAxleCap.stl The spool holder features a track that allows for adjusting the spool wheels to accommodate different sized filament spools. After printing, apply a bit of force to unstick the two parts and adjust as needed. A hole is provided for an optional M3 screw to secure the track in place. Be cautious not to apply too much force with the screw or you'll deform the track. ### Printing with numbers: To print with a number using the MMU2, combine the following files (in this example, we're printing #1): * MMU Spool Holder.stl * MMU-Number1-bg.stl * MMU-Number1.stl ### Wheels and Bearings: Each wheel requires a 608 bearing inserted all the way into the hole in the center. Then, insert an axle through the bearing and attach an axle cap on the other side. Now you can snap the wheel into place. ### Loading the filament: When everything is printed and assembled, follow these steps to load the filament spool: * Push the end of the PTFE teflon tube coming from the MMU2 unit into the hole on the back of the spool holder until it's peeking out the other side. * Place your spool of filament on the wheels with the loose end falling downward towards the front. * Thread the end of the filament through the hole on the right side and under the filament wheel. * Loop the filament around the filament wheel twice. * Thread the filament into the PTFE teflon tube to the MMU2 unit. * Now, thread it into the tube until it reaches the MMU2 unit.
