Prusa Air 2 X carriage - Micron direct drive extruder
thingiverse
I was asked by a friend if I could work something out to fit the Micron extruder on a Prusa Air 2 machine. To get started, I took my earlier X carriage design http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:154258 and redesigned the top carriage plate to accommodate the micron extruder while maintaining standard 2-holed spacing for other extruders like Greg's Wade's. This is concept Rev 1, and it seems to work really well. Although with the fan at the front, it can be tough to see what is being printed, so the next revision will try relocating the fan. The Micron direct drive (geared stepper) and hot end is such a fantastic piece of engineering; it had to fit somehow! The compromise is that the X axis only has 150mm of usable travel, but that's a small price to pay. On the Prusa Air 2 with this extruder, you get a build height of 125, so what you lose on the X axis, you gain in build height. If you like this...hit the button! Update March 1st >> Rev 2 Added a duct so the fan can be mounted to the side under the stepper motor. This provides much better view of the print during printing. The fan duct contains an M4 nut trap that is aligned with the adapter bracket hold down bolt
