During excavations by Mr L J Keen and Mr D W R Thackray, a team from the Department of the Environment uncovered a decorated stone in the foundations of Prudhoe Castle's early 14th century hall in 1970. The stone was likely cut from outcrop rock and used as building material without consideration for its historical importance. Motifs on the stone feature two or three single cups and two larger cups adorned with multiple rings. Short radial grooves emanate from the central cups. The present location of the stone is displayed in a Geograph image. This 3D model was created from a single stereo pair of photos taken by the Northumberland & Durham Rock Art Project in 2008, showcasing only the front (decorated) face of the stone. The stone's designation as England’s Rock Art (ERA-750).
