<p><strong>Important: Adding a speed controller is hazardous and must only be done by well trained personell.</strong></p><p>I got a new Proxxon TBM 220 Micro drill press for small parts. Great little machine. As I often work with PLA the minimal speed is often still too high. So I built an enclosure that I can use with a simple bit cheap <a href="https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07LF7JVFD">speed controller / dimmer from Amazon</a>.</p><p>I opted for a solution that allows me to just unscrew the motor cable and put the electrical connection box aside to revert it to the original state if necessary.</p><p>Hence I needed a two wire 220V cable and a <a href="https://www.ebay.de/itm/174098153770">220V rocker switch</a>.</p><p>The Motor Cable Protection is probably not necessary. But it was part of the original design and prevents the motor cables to rub on the metal housing of the machine. Glue it in place with CA so it sticks out of the enclosure.</p><p>Works like a charm. I deliberately did not add cooling openings as this speed controller is capable of supporting 2000W devices. This tiny machine is rated 85W. Maybe a different / smaller speed controller would work but I had this in my stock.</p><p>All parts fit nicely. The two M2x10mm countersunk screws for the cover are not really necessary as the cover is a tight fit. Bit there is 220V behind it so better safe than sorry.</p><p>The PCB of the speed controller is mounted with 2x 2,9mm x 5mm self tapping screws. The cable retainer is mounted with 2x 2,9mm x 12mm self tapping screws.</p><p>By drilling the holes to 2.7mm you can also use M3 screws.</p>
