Proxxon MF70 Anti-Backlash Nut
thingiverse
I'm aiming to reduce Backlash on my MF70. I arrived at a plan called "tightening" the threads, which involves hand-tapping with an M6 6h tap. The rod is a sturdy 12mm brass rod, and I intend to swap out the PTFE nuts. This upgrade requires replacing the existing left-threaded 6mm rod with a right-threaded one. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this idea - if it looks viable, I'll go ahead with it. Incidentally, those measurements aren't real; they're merely theoretical calculations based on clearance requirements. It's essentially an exercise in planning how I would approach the problem. Don't assume that these dimensions will work without checking the fit. You can follow these steps to replicate my process: Instructions are as follows: Materials needed: * Rod: A 12mm-diameter rod with a minimum length of 28mm (Brass, PTFE, or Nylon; aluminum may not be ideal) * Threaded rod: An M6 right-threaded rod * Saw: A fine metal saw * Tap, screws, and bit for tapping at M6 and M3 threads To begin: 1. If necessary, use a 3D printed drill template to create an angle of 90 degrees. 2. Drill the holes with an M5 tap (5mm) and M3 tap (2.5mm). 3. Tap the holes with the specified tap. 4. Saw the two nuts clean through with the fine metal saw. 5. Clean out any debris from the threads using the tap. 6. Test-fit the 12mm rod, then tighten to remove any backlash or clearance issues. 7. Install and run - share your feedback in comments.
