PROTOTYPE of #FilamentCarousel for 20x20 Profiles and "side fed" Prinnters
thingiverse
This is a PROTOTYPE in its infancy, having undergone only a few hours of printing in Axel's workshop. It shows promise, but I'm not entirely convinced about it. UPDATE: Further testing has revealed that movement along the x-axis is crucial for proper unwinding. Instead of using a guiding tube, the device requires a gear system that transfers motion to the filament. A possible solution is an arm mounted on the x-axis that pulls the filament from side to side. Unfortunately, I lack access to such machinery, so I'm unable to develop this concept further. Perhaps you can take it up? Check out the prototype in action: [https://youtu.be/JN2R9289t-U?t=104](https://youtu.be/JN2R9289t-U?t=104) This is an attempt to adapt the Filament Carousel idea for printers that feed filament from the side. Many modern printers feature extruders on the x-axis, pulling the filament from the side. The existing versions of the Filament Carousel are not suitable for these machines. To make the Filament Carousel more widely available, it's essential to support side-fed machines as well. The Filament Carousel takes Richard Horn's Master Spool concept a step further by eliminating the need for spools altogether. A plain coil of filament can be printed directly from its shipping bag. This means no more spools are needed, and the filament remains protected from dirt, dust, and moisture. Unused coils are also easier to store. See my concept video on YouTube: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOhGI9ZFLmU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOhGI9ZFLmU). An English version is in preparation. For a more organized discussion of this topic, I've created the Filament Carousel group on Thingiverse. Everyone interested is welcome to join! Bill of materials: * 3 bearings 608 (the most common type) * 3 countersink screws M5x20 and nuts * 1 M3x12 with nut * 4 nuts and bolts for mounting on 20x20 profiles * 2-4 binder clips * 1m of 4mm PTFE hose Printing and assembly are largely identical to the Filament Carousel. The hub and carrier can be obtained from this Thing. The tube guide locates one end of the PTFE tube directly beneath the Filament Carousel, guiding the filament to the extruder. Thanks for testing!
