This forms part of an abandoned project that I had started working on. I initially planned to use this as a key component in a laser fence system, complete with adjustable mounting options. I had envisioned powering this system from multiple sources, but most notably from a 12v battery. However, since then, I have discovered more cost-effective and efficient alternatives. To create this part of the system, you will need: 1 x Laser module from Jaycar's Cat No: XC4490 at AUD $5 1 x AMS1117 5V regulator board (available on Aliexpress) for AUD $0.25 4 x 1N4004 Diodes from Jaycar To assemble this component, first create a bridge rectifier arrangement using the diodes for polarity protection. Connect these between the input wires and the 5V regulator. Next, connect the output of the 5V regulator to the GND and S pins of the laser module. Ensure that GND is connected to the negative terminal and S to the positive terminal. Insert the module into its case and secure it with glue. Be cautious not to damage the collimator during this process. It's worth noting that if you plan to waterproof the laser, be extremely careful as you may inadvertently damage the collimator. I highly recommend using two-part epoxy instead of hot glue, but ensure it does not come into contact with the rear of the laser aperture and collimator. This project assumes a basic understanding of safety precautions when working with lasers, such as avoiding direct eye exposure or pointing the laser at aircraft.
