Proteus Respirator
**Updated May 4th: Corrected the 100-130 & 100-140 threads, now fixed. Thanks, Ives! May the 4th be with you!
**Updated April 12th: Adjusted nose area width for better printability and rounded the chin area for a snugger fit** Designed for comfort and ease of use This respirator is not intended to replace an approved medical-grade mask The goal was to create a simple, comfortable respirator that generates minimal waste. The only component you'll need to replace regularly is the filter, which can be crafted from common household materials (see below). **Sizing (Height-Width)** Print the "Face_Size_Tester" and use the image above to measure your face for the perfect fit. This ensures a secure seal. You'll likely need to glue fabric or foam inside the mask to achieve a proper seal. Printing the correct size is crucial, so take your time with this step. **Sizing numbers are "height/width"** Height measures from the bottom of the chin to the middle of the nose Width is based on the distance between cheekbones The supplied tool will make measuring easier **Materials** PETG is the recommended material due to its safety and printability. ABS can be used, but it's more challenging to work with. Research online to find the best material for your needs **Printing** To ensure proper filter installation, verify that your printer can produce screw joints. Print a Filter Holder and Test_Vertical-Thread-Print to test your horizontal expansion/xy compensation settings. Adjust as needed to achieve a snug fit. Set your layer height to 0.2 or less to prevent possible holes Printing without supports is recommended for this design **Straps** Use hair elastics tied to string/rope for secure, adjustable straps **Plug** Print the plug and glue it onto the mask's hole for a one-sided seal. Alternatively, print a Filter Holder and Solid Cap for a similar effect without adhesive. **Parts to Print** Mask Filter Holder (10mm) Filter Spacer (1.5) Filter Cap (your choice) That's it – easy peasy!
Filter
This is the critical component; you'll need to adjust and replace it regularly Ensure ease of airflow for comfortable breathing The sizing is perfect for cotton pads (see image above). One pad may be sufficient, but feel free to add more or experiment with different materials. Cut fabric to fit as an alternative. Tight-threading fabrics work better than loose-weave ones Share your successful filter designs online! **TAG #ProteusRespirator online** Other tags: @protean_man (Twitter), @the_protean_man (Instagram), #proteanman If this respirator works for you, please make more for others Send me a message if adjustments are needed or something isn't working as intended Videos will be created soon to aid with assembly
