Protein Structure for PDB 3U8V
thingiverse
The printed protein structure has been completed and is now ready for painting. It took approximately 15 hours to build using medium quality settings on a Makerbot Replicator 2 printer, with an additional 5-6 hours needed for support removal. Be cautious of raft separation issues during the printing process, but supports should mitigate any damage. The original pdb file (3U8V) was manipulated in VMD to include only a single dimer without water molecules and displaying histidine residues as CPK models. Due to Tinkercad's file import limit, the model had to be imported and aligned in three segments before grouping and adding support features. Some manual support adjustments were required, but the final print is worth the effort.
