A Protein Skimmer is a very important part of the filtration system in most marine aquariums. **The MPPS1.0 (Mostly Printed Protein Skimmer) is designed to be fully printed, not needing additional PVC or acrylic pipe, glue or anything, and to require as little post processing as possible.** **The MPPS1.0 is designed to be printed in vase mode, that makes it faster to print and uses much less material.** If you find this useful you can always buy me a coffee to help me stay awake and do more stuff for you: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/acorral The design is made in away that the body has 2 square holes in which you need to print adapters for your specific pump and the water flow restrictor on the outlet depending on your adjustment, water level, etc... The geometry of the MPPS1.0 was designed to work with the SICCE SK200 regarding flow, air draw volume, etc **------------ PRINT SETTINGS --------------** The settings are made specifically to achieve a water tight and sturdy design so it is important that you try to follow them as close as possible: You need a large nozzle, we use 1.0mm Vase mode for everything except the bubble plate Line Width: 1.5 mm Flow: 110%, at least for the walls Layer Height: 0.5 mm Bottom of 2.0 mm or 4 bottom layers Recommended Top/Bottom pattern to be ZigZag We print the body at 240C on PETG and with the fans off to increase layer adhesion. For the adapters you can reduce the flow to 100% and perhaps use a little cooling. **------------ WATER INLET --------------** The file included for the water inlet is customized for a **SICCE SK200 Skimmer pump** so if you are going to use that pump you can just print the included file. If you need to use a different pump you can model and print your own adapter as it is just a rectangle block with a hole for the pump water outlet. The inlet block should be 80mm tall and 32mm wide minus half a millimeter for fit tolerance. **If you design a new inlet block please share !** **------------ WATER OUTLET --------------** On the outlet of the skimmer body, we are avoiding the idea of valves because they are not that easy to print and we do not want to put a requirement of a PVC valve so we went in a different direction in the design. Normally the protein skimmers have a valve of some sorts that regulates the flow of water outside of the skimmer by the means of restricting the fflow, either wit ha valve taht reduces the area, a riser tube that increases the head pressure restricting the flow, etc. So we designed the MPPS1.0 with flow restrictors in mind. A flow restrictor is a small block that fits on the outlet on the skimmer's body and we are including files for you to print the required blocks depending on your adjustment, from 10% open to 90% open. The recommendation is for you to print the 50% restrictor and if your water level is around 8" it should work fine, after using the 50% restrictor you can decide if you need to print another restrictor depending if you want dry or wet skimate. **------------ BUBBLE PLATE --------------** The MPPS1.0 has a place for you to place a bubble diffuser plate, this is optional and in no way necessary for its operation, if you like to use the bubble plate you will need to make 2 identical prints of the stl included, buy some 1/4"-20 Nylon Thumb Screws (I bought these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LDQJ7CR) You will also need to tap the thread on the simmer's body with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F8T55GC The Bubble plate is designed in 2 pieces so it fits through the skimmers neck and then assemble it inside. **IMPORTANT: The bubble plate is the only part that is not intended to be printed in vase mode, this needs to be printed in normal mode using whatever setting you trust in.** **------------ SKIMMER'S CUP --------------** The cup is designed so it just slides/fits from the top onto the neck, yes it's not a watertight fit but there is no really need for that in order to have it collect skimate and you can take it out easily to clean the cup periodically. The cup has a lid and two optional pieces you can print and bond/glue to the original lid if you want it to work as a place for having CO2 absorbent media or activated carbon If you want to add that feature you need to print the CO2LidWall file and the Co2Lid. Assembly if this extra pieces will require for you to drill some holes and use some kind of boding material, since we recommend PETG the ideal would be dichloromethane but some other solvent will work too, thick super glue, silicone, etc... You need to bond the Co2Lid Wall to the original cup lid, drill a hole in the lid for air to pass from the cup to the second floor of the lid, make a second hole for you to connect the venturi hose from your pump and finally make many holes on the wall on the co2lidwall so air can flow from one side to the other.
