Novik was commissioned as part of a strategic initiative to boost the Russian Pacific Fleet's capabilities with a cutting-edge reconnaissance cruiser, boasting a substantial 3000-ton displacement class. Shipbuilders from various countries presented their designs, and ultimately, the renowned German shipbuilding firm Schichau-Werke, celebrated for its exceptional torpedo boats, was chosen for the project. The innovative cruiser was launched on August 2, 1900, and her trials commenced on May 2, 1901. Initially, some vibration issues arose with her propellers, but thorough testing was concluded on April 23, 1902, following five rigorous test runs at an average speed of 25.08 knots. This impressive performance made Novik one of the fastest cruisers globally at that time, which deeply impressed the Russian naval leadership and prompted them to replicate this design in the prestigious Izumrud class. This scale model is actually slightly smaller than intended due to a minor printing error, showcasing a 1:3200 scale representation. However, the uploaded model has been resized to an optimal 1:2400 scale for better clarity. This accurate miniature replica can also serve as a suitable representation of the Izumrud-Class cruisers.
