In ancient times, this character type was viewed as a visionary leader. During the Middle Ages, the Old Testament prophets were widely believed to have predicted Christ's arrival. Their prophecies were often inscribed on phylacteries or scrolls that they proudly displayed before their followers. A phylactery is a small leather pouch containing Hebrew texts etched onto vellum, worn by Jewish men during morning prayer as a tangible reminder to uphold the law.
