Proper Bias Tape maker 1/2 " for sewing machine, hem
thingiverse
I initially attempted to print some bias tape folders that had been shared previously by others on TW, but for reasons unknown, all the files possessed non-manifold geometry, unprintable sides and in general caused my slicer to malfunction. I decided to create my own from scratch, ensuring it would be properly designed at last. This custom design features small wings that can be attached to a sewing machine with tape, allowing users to simultaneously create bias tape and sew it in place. In contrast, traditional methods often require the use of a double needle to achieve this result. As a result, I won't be explaining how my setup would function using a single needle because it's simply not feasible. The design is carefully rotated to ensure proper printing without support needed. A 100% infill was used due to the small size of the folder, making it unnecessary to use less. To load the strip, cut it at an angle and then use scissors or a screwdriver to push it through the window. Approximately one inch of strip will yield half an inch of bias tape. YouTube videos are available for reference, demonstrating that all bias tape folders function in a similar manner. In the future, I may expand this design to create double-fold tape. The custom folder was designed using Fusion 360, requiring significant brainpower and problem-solving skills to conceal slopes and folding channels within the enclosure. Despite its complexity, I can confirm that the geometry is accurate, watertight and solid.
