This is a model from CT scans of Propalorchestes novacalacephalus (QVM2000GFV459 from the collections of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston) from the middle Miocene Camfield Beds in Australia. The cranium showcases the most complete skull ever discovered for this genus. Detailed preservation of previously unknown rostral anatomy supports the hypothesis that Propalorchestes possessed Palorchestes-like retracted nasal morphology. Furthermore, it reveals the advanced stage of evolution of the specialized retracted nasal structure achieved within the lineage by the early to middle Miocene.
