Prop drill guide for 3mm motor shaft
thingiverse
This prop drill guide is intended to drill out T-mount props to fit the 13mm FPVcycle motor with a 3mm shaft. I’ve tested it with both TPU and PETG and both seem to work well. I flew a few packs with the 16mm motors and avan scimitar props on a 3.5” AOS frame and couldn’t see or hear any vibrations. I didn’t do any black box analysis or anything so if you are so inclined please do. If your printer is fairly well calibrated then you should be good to just grab the STL files for the base and the cap, slice them as you usually would, and print them out. If you find that the holes for the screws and/or drill bit are too tight or loose then you may want to print out the hole size tester. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5397655 The screw holes in the cap are 2.1mm and should thread in fairly tight but not so much that it distorts the plastic. The holes in the base are 2.2mm for the screws and 3.1mm for the drill bit shaft. After a couple of times pushing the screws into the base they should push in fairly easily without having to screw them in. The holes should not be too tight where you have to drill them out because it will make the holes off center. If the drill bit is a little tight and you just need to run it through the hole to clean it up a little, that's fine, just be sure you’re not drilling out a bunch of plastic. The drill bit I used is a 3mm but actually measures 2.95mm with my Husky calipers, which may or may not be 100% accurate. The props that I drilled with this bit fit perfectly on the motor shaft with zero play. I can’t pull them off once they’re on there, I have to spin them off counter-clockwise. I used M2 x 12mm screws to hold the prop. The holes in the base don’t go all the way through because they are cutting into the drill hole shaft, which could make the drill bit wobble, so I only made them deep enough to keep the screws stable. TIP: This is much faster/easier if you use a cordless drill with a hex bit for the screws because you can’t just pull the cap and screws off the prop when you’re done drilling them out. The holes are so close together that it creates a thin wall of plastic that locks into the screw threads when you drill. I threw a bunch of files in here but the STLs you want to print are these: prop drill guide 3mm cap v5.stl prop drill guide 3mm v11.stl I also include the Fusion 360 project files, Cura project files and the gcode files for printing TPU and PETG on the Sovol SV01, if you happen to have one of those. If you have any suggestions for improvements please let me know!
