It was a dark and stormy night. The kind of night that made you want to curl up by the fire with a good book. But I wasn't there to read. I was out in the midst of it all, trying to find my way through the torrential downpour. Every step I took felt like I was trudging through quicksand. My shoes were soaked, my clothes were clinging to me, and my hair was a mess. I looked like a drowned rat. As I walked, the rain pounded against me like a thousand tiny drummers. It was relentless. I ducked under an awning to get out of it for a second, but even that didn't provide much relief. The wind howled through the alleyway, making it hard to hear myself think. I pulled my hood up over my head and kept moving. I had to get to the other side of town. It was where I needed to be. But the storm seemed determined to stop me. Every step forward felt like two steps back. I stumbled on a loose paving stone, but managed to catch myself before falling. That was just what I needed - another injury to add to my growing list. As I turned a corner, I saw a glimmer of light in the distance. A streetlamp cast its rays over the wet pavement, illuminating the way forward. I quickened my pace, grateful for any bit of relief from the storm. But as I got closer, I realized it wasn't just a streetlamp - it was an old-fashioned phone booth. And inside that phone booth was a payphone. Now that's what I needed. A chance to call in some help. I fished out my phone card and dialed the number of the person I needed to reach. The rain pounded against me as I waited for someone to pick up, but finally, after what felt like an eternity, a voice answered on the other end of the line.
