Project Boxes of Various Sizes
thingiverse
Injection molded project boxes stand out for high quality, but 3D printing boxes opens up more size options and lets you print on demand with holes pre-cut to exact specifications. For instance, if you have a large printer at your disposal, you can create the box needed for a temperature process controller right away, complete with pre-drilled holes. A clear set of instructions can be found here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Automate-ANY-Temperature-Controlled-Process/. Keep in mind that the project shown on this site was not 3D printed. All necessary dimensions for a completed box, without the lid, are provided. Exterior walls are exactly 3/16 inch thick. Four screws are required to securely attach the lid, though it fits neatly into place as a snap. I recommend printing at a rate of two layers per perimeter and infusing each layer with a minimum of 30% material for best results. If the box size you need is not readily available, simply use a nearby option as your template and make any necessary adjustments within reason. A 3/16 inch wall thickness strikes an optimal balance for printed boxes. The original design file in 'Cubify Design' software format is included below.
