This is not my original project. The original creator and project can be found at http://bjoernkarmann.dk/project_alias. Alias is a teachable "parasite" that gives users more control over their smart assistants, both in terms of customization and privacy. Through a simple app, the user can train Alias to react to a custom wake word/sound, and once trained, Alias takes control of your home assistant by activating it for you. When not in use, Alias ensures the assistant is paralyzed and unable to listen by interrupting its microphones. Follow the build guide on Instructables or get the source code on GitHub.
