Profile Plane Motor Mount This design is specifically tailored for use in home-built foam board profile planes and has proven to be highly effective in an Extra 330 shock flyer that's been heavily modified to accommodate an extremely powerful motor. The motor mount features a robust construction with maximum strength and minimal weight, thanks to its three-part design that allows for optimal layer orientation during the printing process. By separating the print into multiple parts, each layer can be printed in the most beneficial direction, capitalizing on their inherent strengths and minimizing weaknesses. All 3D prints exhibit distinct characteristics where they're exceptionally strong along the X and Y axes but relatively weaker along the Z axis. To mitigate this, the mount is assembled using a combination of CA (or epoxy or gorilla glue) for bonding and 1.5 or 2 mm screws for added stability. A total of three screws are inserted along the length, while at least six are placed on the face to ensure maximum hold. Once the adhesive has set, the screws are removed, and the mount is carefully aligned between the foam layers, typically two in number, before being secured with clamps. This allows for precise motor installation and "clocking" as needed, while also enabling the mount's length to be adjusted or shortened according to specific plane requirements. Key printing settings include a 0.35mm nozzle diameter, 0.2mm layer height, and 100% infill density to guarantee optimal structural integrity and durability.
