An update on 3rd of June, 2012 revealed the upload of a beta version of this new Makerbot (3D) and 5D gcode viewer, written in Processing and licensed as open-source. It's still under development, so contributions are welcome. The GitHub repo is available at https://github.com/nmsl1993/ProcessingGcodeViewer. This software supports viewing dual extrusion prints correctly. However, it requires a discrete GPU for optimal performance or else it would be really slow with integrated graphics. The idea came to the developer while working at Makerbot and listening to Ben Rockhold boasting about pleasant3D (an OSX-only closed-source software). Other inspirations include Pleasant3D's tool and Makerbot's ToolPathViz. It is installed by downloading the zip file, unzipping it, and running the executable. All files in the archive must be kept intact for proper functioning. To use the source from GitHub, you need to install Processing IDE and libraries controlP5 and peasycam. Then, open ProcessingGUI.pde in the IDE, navigate to Sketch --> Add File, and add GcodeViewParse.java and LineSegment.java. Finally, run it. If anyone uses this source, kindly comment on how useful it was.
