This design enables seamless replacement of the standard Printrite block extruder with the more advanced and flexible J-head variety of extruders. The lower carriage section is not required for the changeover to the J-head, as the two-part upper extruder mount fits directly onto the Printrite carriage without modification to the carriage itself. This design addition provides extra space around the J-head hot-end and offers the same benefits if the user prefers to install a Mk7/8 dual extruder instead of the J-head. This design is specifically for the Bowden variety of J-head, which means the extruder is fed from a remote feeder motor located away from the carriage. The carriage utilizes 4x LM8UU 8mm bearings (alternatively, you can reuse the Printrite originals). The fan is positioned at the rear of the carriage extruder to provide an unobstructed view of the extruder tip during operation. A 40mm fan is used (the original fan may also be suitable). Future additions will include a adjustable belt tensioner, mounting options for tip cooling fans, mounting options for auto bed leveling, and possibly a design for dual J-head extruders. Additional requirements: * 10x M2x10mm bolts * 10x M2 washers Further information (02/08/2016): Initial calibration and software adjustments have been completed. Filament retraction needs to be increased to a minimum of 2mm (the PR stock Slic3r setting is 1mm). A design specifically for Printrite users has been added: "endstop adjustment block". This attaches to the left-hand side of the carriage, physically re-centring the hot-end to its original position when in home position. Without this block, prints may be slightly off-center on the bed (15mm off-center). Additional information (10/08/2016): An alternative extruder mount bracket has been added with a mounting point for a 5mm 12V LED. The LED is positioned to illuminate the extruder tip area and can be powered along with the extruder fan.
