In my upgraded Printrbot, I replaced all 300mm rods with 50cm ones and exchanged the T5 belts for longer GT2 belts and pulleys. The new build platform is over 30x30 cm and prints smoothly. However, the printer is louder now, so I can't leave it running overnight or my neighbors will complain due to increased vibrations and a y-wobble issue, possibly caused by lm8uu bearings with missing balls. To resolve this, I replaced the base with a Japica 608 Base for smoother operation. A full wooden frame would be ideal if space allowed. The X carriage now fits a 1m belt loop perfectly without cutting, and the Y belt is positioned like http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28423. Z-wobble reduced by using base pieces with Z motor support from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28557; I haven't tried the Z - top joiner yet but it works fine without. Adding feet will improve stability, and smaller prints turned out great. A software endstop issue in Printrboard firmware limited initial use of the full build surface, but after fixing it with help from printrbot.com support, I uploaded the corrected firmware using Atmel FLIP. Always use official printrboard sources from https://github.com/PxT/Marlin/tree/master/Marlin when making adjustments. Lastly, I added a Z-Rod double stabiliser (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36022) for further stability enhancements.
