PrintrBot Simple X-axis GT2 Belt & Extension Remix
thingiverse
I initially had trouble printing the Original PrintrBot Simple X-axis GT2 Belt & Extension (Thing 215294) on my under-calibrated Simple, so I remixed it into a version that would print smoothly on my standard-sized bed before installing the Simple XL Upgrade Kit. This isn't an award-winning design, but if it helps someone, it's worth sharing. Here is the list of vitamins you'll need for this project: 1 x 400mm 8mm polished rod 2 x 10mm M3 screws 8 x 12mm M3 screws 6 x 16mm M3 screws 6 x 30mm M3 screw 1 x M3 Nut 1 x GT2 belt and pulleys 2 x 608 (skateboard) bearings 1 x Printrbot Simple Metal Print Bed for Build Volume Upgrade Optional Vitamins: 4 x 20mm M3 Countersunk head screws to enable printing over the whole print bed. The following printed parts are needed for this project: - MotorMountXGT2.stl from Thing 194686 or 215294 - BearingCap608.stl from Thing 194686 or 215294 Tools required for the project include: - M3 HSS twist drill threaded bit (Exact Thread) - 2mm Allen wrench for the pulley - 2.5mm Allen wrench for the M3 screws - Rotary Tool or Round Needle File and Medium Toothed File Before starting, read through all instructions, and ensure that all prints are done on your Simple with a layer height of 0.25mm on the original build bed. Printed parts should have at least a 3mm distance from the part being printed. Rotate the Left Tension Block and Right Top Tension Block 45° to avoid slicing anomalies. When using the M3 HSS twist drill threaded bit (Exact Thread), use it to thread the narrow holes. If necessary, use a Round Needle File to drill out the rest of the holes for the M3 screws. Assemble the left and right base, mount the front and rear arms, and the tension blocks (don't tighten – leave a few millimeters gap). Disassemble the base when attaching the bearings. Test fit MotorMountXGT2, file/adjust as necessary. Place the x-axis motor on the workbench with the axis pointing up. Cut the GT2 belt to 450mm length and wrap it around the GT2 pulley, sliding the pulley and belt between the bearings mounted on the MotorMountXGT2. Position the MotorMountXGT2 with the pulley and belt on the x-motor axis, screw motor to plate, tighten GT2 gear to shaft. Assemble Simple again, using blue tape for M3 nuts when installing the Simple XL Upgrade Kit. Thread 400mm polished rods through linear bearings, fasten outer screws on left base, attach Metal Print Bed to arms without springs, thread rods through right base, fasten outer screws on right base, and lock assembl
