Printrbot Simple Spool Holder (v2 Updated)
thingiverse
I created this as a response to my frustration with the spool holders that can be printed within the Simple's limited build volume. This project is ongoing, but it currently gets the job done efficiently. Edit: I've replaced the original STLs with an improved version that eliminates the need for glue. I'm confident that these updated designs will perform better and provide a more reliable experience for users. For reference, this spool holder was specifically designed to accommodate a Push Plastic spool, measuring 72mm in width. To assemble the device, follow these steps: 1. Print two "Foot" units. 2. Print one "Connector." 3. Carefully position the axles within each foot, paying attention to the draft angles designed to securely hold the bearings in place. If necessary, use a tool or flat surface to aid in installing the bearings, as removing them once set can be challenging. When printing the feet, ensure proper orientation, avoiding support structures that might compromise the interface between the Foot and Connector. Although supports are required under the axles, these are relatively easy to remove with pliers. Upon completing all pieces, they should fit together snugly without issues. For optimal results, any 608 bearings will work well; I personally salvaged mine from an old skateboard.
