Operators can install an 8 mm brass flange nut into place after first downsizing the flange for proper clearance fitment. I wish I hadn't parted with that lathe, but that's not relevant here - what matters is the fact that in this instance the flange was roughly reduced using a drill held firmly against a bench grinder wheel. Secure the joint using an adhesive of your preference.
