The spool holder on my Printrbot simple metal setup was prone to getting blocked by the spool sliding right over the extruder arm at a certain Z height, which would halt printing altogether. To rectify this issue, I fabricated a small attachment that clips onto the spool holder, thereby providing enough clearance for the Z-axis to move freely without any risk of collision with the spool.
