Printrbot Simple Metal Locking Extruder Handle V2
thingiverse
This Locking Extruder Handle is a more sophisticated version of my initial Printrbot Simple Metal Locking Extruder Handle found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:651391, which locks both when open (to feed in new filament) and closed (locked down and ready to print). All parts of the improved version are compatible with the original one. You can mix and match as you like. New features include lock and unlock symbols on top, a "printrbot" label on the front, an extended back for proper alignment with the Extruder Stepper Motor, grill vents on the front for ventilation, a redesigned lever stronger than before yet taking up less space, and aesthetic enhancements. Instructions Do not attempt to print the assembled model from the .stl file. Print the base of the Extruder Handle first, placing it face down. Print this part carefully to avoid errors. Then, print the Lever, ensuring support is generated under overhanging sections, but avoid rotating or attempting to print in different directions since the lever is optimized for maximum strength in its specified orientation. Next, print the Connector component, making sure it fits properly with the other parts of your Locking Extruder Handle. Assemble the Handle by screwing three M3 20mm screws (used in the simple metal model) into place. Use these to attach all components and ensure stability. Lastly, don't forget to include a Dust Filter for improved results. A custom filter designed specifically for your Locking Extruder Handle is highly recommended (check out http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:492067). Since they print quickly, having one for each spool of filament makes sense to simplify your printing process. To mount it onto the Simple Metal, you will need to slightly lift up the top portion of the base handle in order for the locking part to sit correctly against the aluminum arm. Don't worry about a little wiggle or jiggling; this just indicates a snug fit! To show off your hard work, please post pictures of your printed Locking Extruder Handle online and share it with other Printrbot enthusiasts.
