I made a very similar guide, actually one that was featured here on Thingiverse. I customized it so that it prints beautifully without needing any supports and even smoothed out the edges, making them look nice. My version also activates the rods, which has worked great for my spool holder; however, you may want to consider wrapping tape around yours or printing at 99% to address this issue.
