Printrbot Simple Metal Fancy Spool Holder
cults3d
Yes, another spool holder for Printrbot Simple Metal... I wanted one that was vertical, centered over the bars, compact, sturdy and with little friction. It also had to be simple to use, support large spools and look ok. This one accepts spools up to ~90mm wide and 110mm in radius. I started with a 32mm PVC pipe I had and used that as the axis. The result is virtually frictionless, the spool actually rotates both ways depending on the motion of the Y-axis. If you don't have a 32 mm PVC pipe, an equivalent STL file to print is included. press fit end-caps are included for the PVC pipe. There are also adapters for eSUN spools and the 32mm PCV axis, plus rings to keep things centered. I made collars for extra rigidity under the main part. Screw holes included for M3 screws. I used these collars in my first printed version (see photo), but this version has closer tolerance, and the collars do not seem to be required. They are included anyway. A test piece with bar holes is included so you can print it quickly and check your printers calibration for printing this spool holder. The test piece should fit exactly over the vertical bars as shown, without forcing anything. I printed with Cura, eSUN PLA filament, layer height 0.2mm, shell bottom/top thickness 0.8mm, fill density 15%, print speed 70mm/s.
